At last

Yes, I finally finished something. The story was for the “Slice of Life” challenge but is a bit late (three weeks past the deadline type late), but hey… “Having Her Cake” is only short, about 1,000 words and concerns Janeway’s attempts to resume a normal life in the AQ.

I’ve got another story about 90% finished but I’m struggling a bit with the ending (what’s new) and is yet another ‘after they get home’ one. I’ve got a one track mind, obviously.

This is a really, really sweet story. I adored the dry wit included:

“What Janeway found truly amazing, after mastering egg boiling, relatively quickly, was that there were so many other foods that one could boil; rice, pasta, vegetables.

“How long had this been going on?”

This line made me laugh out loud. Simple and just perfectly timed. The whole story reads beautifully, though; it’s quiet and I really like how learning to cook gives Kathryn a chance to reconnect with her life some, and to continue the connections with her crew. And being a bit of a romantic at heart (dunno if you intended it), her planning on inviting Chakotay over at the end made me absurdly happy.

Thanks so much for writing this! It’s just what I had in mind with the challenge, and executed well to boot. If I run the challenge again, I’ll just add it to that one; that way, you’re early instead of late.

Thanks for the wonderful feedback! Glad you liked it.

As for Janeway having Chakotay over, I’m a J/Cer through & through, so…
